With Em at the Bestival, I thought I'd take the opportunity to have another tinker with some deliSearch derivatives this weekend, so here's the first offering: deliSearch tools for del.icio.us.
The standard delicious search offerings are to search delicious, your delicious links or the web:
As regular readers will know, I have been tinkering with various feed limited searches for some time now (most recently with searchfeedr), typically using the pages listed in a feed - or the domain those pages are served from - to limit a search.
As its name hopefully suggests, deliSearch uses a feed from delicious to limit a search. [new AJAX deliSearch interface in testing... ]
Services like Rollyo do similar things in terms of letting users construct their own search engines, but for all their prettiness I do wonder why we need these extra services when we can overload them on something like delicious?
So - here's a deliSearch Greasemonkey script and a deliSearch bookmarklet (Firefox and IE7 at least) that will add (another) search box to a delicious links page and let the user search over either those links or the domains from which they are served.
Like Rollyo, deliSearch uses Yahoo to construct OR'd site: or url: search limits, demonstrating how major search engines can be mashed with just a little imagination.
All I need now is for a few people to start posting things like: deliSearch - Rollyo on steroids! ;-)
