OU Jobs Round Up - June '07
Apologies that this round-up falls so soon after the last, but there have been quite a few posts advertised recently that may be of interest to some readers... The deadline for quite a few of them is this week...
- ELearning Specialist (Information Literacy), The Library and Learning Resource Centre: Can you help support the creative implementation of the Virtual Learning Environment across all areas of the curriculum? You will be responsible for the development of online learning and assessment information skills materials to meet the needs of Open University courses and programmes. You will support and advise the Learning and Teaching Librarians on appropriate learning design and use of media. You will contribute to staff development events as well as liaising with academic colleagues in an eLearning Community of Practice, sharing approaches to eLearning pedagogy and contributing to the development of eLearning practice.
- Business Systems Analysts, Academic & Administrative Computing Services : We need versatile business-focused analysts to work in the Systems Development section of the University's central Computing Services department. We are looking for people who enjoy working collaboratively, have a good knowledge of structured methods, including data and process analysis... Our systems support a wide range of university activity including sales and marketing, student registration, despatching course materials, tutor allocation, course assignments and examinations, stock control, personnel, payroll and finance. Our web presence is the main channel for contact with our 200,000 students and 8,000 tutors.
- Application Developers, Academic & Administrative Computing Services : We need versatile business-focused application developers to work in the Systems Development section of the University's central Computing Services department. We are looking for people who enjoy working collaboratively, have a good knowledge of development methods and tools and are keen to develop their professional skills. You should have a sound knowledge of at least one programming language and have experience of relational databases. Our main development platform is the Microsoft .net framework; we also use packages, including Siebel CRM, Documentum and SAS. However we will provide training where needed. More important is a flexible approach and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Research Publications Librarian, The Library and Learning Resource Centre:Could you help the Open University to exploit its potential and support its research? You will be central to the development and maintenance of the Open University's database of peer-reviewed research, Open Research Online. This will enable the University to prepare for the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, centralise research publications and showcase its research activity. A key part of this role will be to help promote and raise awareness of the University's research activities. You will also advise researchers of national initiatives in scholarly communication and work with colleagues to help them understand how to promote alternative publishing models to researchers.
- Metadata and Cataloguing Librarian, The Library and Learning Resource Centre: The Library's content, particularly its electronic content, is an essential part of the resource base required to support the aims of the University's teaching and learning strategy. A key part of the role is enabling discovery of this content by cataloguing both third party e-resources and the University's digital assets. You will be responsible for overseeing the application and quality assurance of metadata and providing training and guidance for colleagues. You will also assist the Metadata Manager in ensuring the smooth running of the Cataloguing and Metadata service.
- Network Controller, Academic and Administrative Computing Services: Computing Services is the central IT department for the OU, and it services the University's computing systems and IT infrastructure. We are looking to appoint a Network Controller who will maintain and support all Network Services. This will include using monitoring and diagnostic equipment, and installing and maintaining Network and Telephony Hardware. You will be required to give technical advice to Open University staff, liaise with suppliers, maintenance agencies and other third parties without supervision and act under your initiative in resolving operational problems.
- Media Assistant, Learning & Teaching Solutions (LTS): An assistant is needed to help produce the Open University's learning and teaching materials. You will work with editors, designers and interactive media developers to support the Faculty of Education and Language Studies (FELS) in the preparation and administration of a variety of different media.
- Service Assistants, Learning and Teaching Solutions: We are looking to fill Service Assistant posts in the Service Delivery Team of the Learning & Teaching Solutions Strategic department (LTS). You will be capable of solving problems, have a high level of IT competence and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. As a Service Assistant within the Service Delivery Team, you will support the delivery of learning and teaching services to students and staff. You will also provide support for service delivery administrators, and administer key University learning and teaching systems.

- Professor of International Higher Education Policy, Centre for Higher Education Research and Information (CHERI): Applications are invited for the position of Professor of International Higher Education Policy. The post-holder will play a leading role in the further development of the Centre as a leading international research centre in the field of higher education policy.
