- Business Development / Laboratory Manager, Knowledge Media Institute: Creating the Next Generation Web
The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute has an opening for a multi-talented individual to fill the post of Business Development/Laboratory Manager who will contribute to taking the Institute forward into the next stage of its development trajectory. The successful candidate will act as an interface between KMi and the rest of the University and between KMi and the external world: It is expected that there will be significant involvement in the development of KMi's external profile and of potential funding streams. You will provide support to the Management Board and Staff of KMi as well as manage some internal operations of the Institute.
- Instructional Designer, Learning & Teaching Solutions
Learning & Teaching Solutions (LTS) is looking for two experienced instructional designers (known as Learning Media Designers) to act as a pedagogic link between academic units and the LTS production staff responsible for the development and support of OU learning materials.
You will liaise closely with faculty staff, project managers, developers and other stakeholders from an early stage, assessing initial needs, ideas and suggestions. You will take the professional lead in generating strategies and high level designs for effective learning activities based on the right blend of media types, methods, products and computing services. You will apply a mix of learning theory and creativity, tempered by the practicalities of production, usability and support
- Web Developer - COROUS, Open University Worldwide (OUW)
OUW is the commercial arm of The Open University. Within this company is the Open University's Corporate University Services (COROUS) who works with corporate clients to deliver small chunks of interactive learning to an employee's desktop through their web browser. Courses will be at any level determined by the client, so could range from Health and Safety to MBA-level modules. As well as OU courses, the company's own in-house courses and learning materials from other suppliers can all be integrated.
COROUS is expanding its activities and now seeking Web Developer to join the team. You will be responsible for designing and developing computer-based applications that will enable on-line learning to be delivered.
You will have relevant experience in a professional production environment for course/learning materials, as well as significant experience in instructional/interactive design with proven track record for building web applications. You will have experience of working closely in a multi-functional project team environment including responsibility for estimating and managing time. You will also have experience of design and development of learning by using established learning principles and theories, alongside experience of Creation of learning products and solutions using the technologies, tools and software that are central to e-learning development.
- IT Assistant, Deanery, Faculty of Science
We are looking for an IT assistant, whose duties will include dealing with support requests from users via email, telephone or contact in person.
You will have good general IT skills and be able to provide solutions or guidance directly to the user. You will also respond to requests from other team members for assistance. Other duties include job logging, loan equipment administration, hardware database maintenance and backup.
- Research Computing Support, Academic & Administrative Computing Services
The University supports a vibrant research portfolio and fosters research teams who compete with top ranked institutions in the UK and worldwide. Computing Services is seeking to strengthen its support capability to these units.
The Specialist Support team within Computing Services has a wide support remit which includes providing assistance to researchers in all University Faculties. We're looking for someone with significant experience of using computers in research, or of supporting academic researchers in a computing service. Applicants should have a user-focused orientation, combined with a good knowledge of LINUX or UNIX. Familiarity with research related software for one or more of Science, Mathematics or Technology is highly desirable.
