My Library Record Bookmarklet Generator (Voyager)

One of the useful features of the Open University Library catalogue is the ability to check your Library record (current loans, etc.) either via a browser interface or RSS, as well as renew books that you currently have out on loan.

This web page application (only tested in Firefox) will create a bookmarklet that you can add to your browser and that will take you directly to your Library Record page without having to supply your surname or Library barcode details again.

The generator will also create a LibraryLookup bookmarklet (Udell). This bookmarklet will take the user from a page with an ISBN number in the URL to a search of their Voyager library catalogue using that ISBN number.

The generator can also be used with other library catalogues.

Here is your bookmarklet:

Once you have created your bookmarklet, save it as a favourite/bookmark, or drag it onto your browser bookmarks toolbar (Firefox). For more information on installing bookmarks, see here.

The generator also creates a link to the RSS feed (RSS lozenge) for your current library loans. You can subscribe to this link in any RSS reader, or use it as a Live Bookmark in Firefox (if you aren;t sure how to do this, look for the section on adding Live Bookmarks manually here).

Using the bookmarklet generator with other library catalogues:

The generator creates bookmarklets for use with the Endeavor Voyager library catalogue system. If your library uses this system, then you may be able to use the generator. From a quick look around the web, it seems that many of the Voyager catalogue systems, such as the OU's, are located at http://voyager.example.com. So if your library catalogue has this sort of URL, you may be in luck...

Just enter the domain (which would be open.ac.uk for the OU if I hadn't hardwired it as the default domain for the generator), check the box, and then use the generator above.

For example, if your catalogue is at http://voyager.example.com enter example.com in the text box.
